Sikh resumes Malaysian National Service training after hair cutting incident

Seremban , Mon, 07 Feb 2011 ANI

Seremban (Malaysia), Feb.7 (ANI): A Sikh National Service (NS) trainee who had complained that his hair was snipped while he slept will resume training today at the Sungkai camp in Perak.

According to The Star, Basant Singh, 17, had left the Sungai Bakap camp in Penang after his controversial claim, which National Service officials denied.

Basant said his metre-long hair, which has not been cut since birth, was snipped by about 60 centimeters while he and 10 other trainees were asleep in the dormitory.

National Service Department director-general Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil was quoted as saying that Basant would not be exempted from training but could switch to another camp or defer training, The Star reports.

It is understood that Basant's family is also seeking legal advice on the matter. (ANI)
