Islamabad, Feb 2(ANI): The Lahore High Court (LHC) has extended the physical remand of double murder-accused US diplomat Raymond Davis till February 11.
Davis, who had shot two Pakistani persons to death at Mazang Chowk in Lahore last Thursday, was produced before court after the expiry of the six-day remand, Geo News reported.
Also, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani told the Lower House of the Parliament on Wednesday that the Pakistan government respects the judiciary, and would accept in letter and spirit whatever decision it gives in the US diplomat's case.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that the name of the accused US national has been put on the Exit Control List (ECL) on the directions of the LHC.
He also clarified that Davis had travelled to Pakistan on a diplomatic passport.
It is noteworthy that just a few days back, Punjab's Deputy Prosecutor General Rana Bakhtiar had said Raymond Davis did not enjoy diplomatic immunity because he had entered Pakistan on a business visa.
"Only diplomats enjoy immunity during their service under the Vienna Convention. Davis cannot claim any such protection due to his business visa," Punjab's Deputy Prosecutor General was quoted, as saying. (ANI)
