Apple to Manufacture iPhone 17 out of China in India

Apple iPhone 17 to become first iPhone model to be developed outside China. According to the reports Apple will be developing iPhone 17 in India and up the portion of locally made iPhone to 25 percent by 2024. This is a major step by Apple to move iPhone manufacturing to India.

According to the report shared by TF Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is planning to increase the number of units to be manufactured in India. Apple to increase the percentage of locally made iPhone to over 25 percent by 2024. 

A blog post by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, states that  the Cupertino company is working to develop iPhone 17. iPhone 17 is expected to come to market in 2025. Apple is also planning to increase the portion of iPhone units manufactured in India. Apple is also planning to decrease the number of iPhone units manufactured in India.

According to the reports, iPhone production in the two regions in China is expected to decline in 2024. Apple has already started making iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max in India. Company is also planning to export made in India iPhone.

According to a Medium post, Foxconn is currently assembling nearly 80 percent of production lines of iPhone in India. Company is expected to scale down its production in China next year by over 45 percent in China and 85 percent in Zhengzhou and Taiyuan; by 2024. Currently a large number of iPhone 15 units being manufactured in India are shipped globally.

Apple is also expected to start the production of the new product introduction (NPI) process for the iPhone 17 in India by middle of 2024. Company selected this model to minimise the risk and started manufacturing iPhone models in India.

It is noted that Taiwan's Wistron approved the sale of 100 percent indirect share to Tata Electronics in the Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing. This deal was done in approximately over $125 million roughly Rs. 1,040 crore. With this deal Tata entered into Apple’s iPhone model  manufacturing in India.

This move will bring a smartphone assembling unit in India, which helps in blistering the company's relationship with the government of India. This deal will also position India in manufacturing iPhone in India. In India a large number of iPhone units are sold and manufacturing in India will also increase the iPhone market in the country.

As of now ‘Make in India’ iPhone is already there in the market, the new deal will increase the number of units being manufactured in India. It is noted that Apple will make the iPhone 17 in India instead of China. 

As of now ‘Made in India’ iPhones are being assembled in India, but the manufacturing of the components is done in China. With iPhone 17 manufacturing Apple is looking for manufacturing of components in India and this will happen when Apple starts manufacturing it in India. This might happen by the second half of 2024 and launch will happen in the second half of 2025.
