The Spectacular 'Made in Assam' show Opened the Sustainable Fashion and Indian Textiles Day with a Kaleidoscope of Fabrics at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016
Mumbai, 25th August, 2016: The beauty of the textiles from Assam has always been admired by fashion connoisseurs globally. It was little wonder, therefore that the spectacular 'Made in Assam' show called 'Halodhi' opened the Sustainable Fashion and Indian Textiles Day with mind-blowing textiles at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016. Three top designers of the region enthralled the audience with their stunning fashion offerings.
ANURADHA PEDU - NATURALLY ANURADHA
The show opened with the traditional Assamese dance form called Sattriya by three youngsters Nupur, Nikita and Gunjan Talwar who kept the tempo of the show upbeat through the collection.
It was a veritable feast for the eyes as Anuradha Pegu unveiled her fabulous collection under her label 'Naturally Anuradha'. A treasure trove of saris, dupattas and scarves on models appeared on the ramp in a riot of colours. Mixing and merging various fabrics, Anuradha used Endi, Muga and Nuni silks as well as spun and pure cotton, which were treated with 100 per cent vegetable dyes like turmeric, lac, iron, harda and manjistha.
The line-up of saris had rich weaves of gold and multi colours that highlighted the borders and the pallav of the traditional drape.
The splendour of the North East states was visible in the stylish weaves that left the audience breathless.
PRANAMI KALITA - PARIAH BY PRANAMI
Bringing to centre stage the beauty of Assam, Pranami Kalita's label 'Pariah by Pranami' was a visual treat on the catwalk. Making her debut at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016, Pranami worked wonders with Muga, Eri and Paat that were all indigenous silks, which are renowned in Assam and blended them with fabrics from other parts of India.
The show opened with a gorgeous white and gold lehenga/choli/ dupatta trio, which was followed by a red/ivory long kurta and luxurious red silk stole. Sleek pants, sheath with cape, one-shoulder gown and off-shoulder slim dresses kept the mood of the show high in fashion. Boleros and pleated skirts with cape blouses and the black/gold cross over kurta teamed with a lehenga added elegance to the line. Adding traditional Assamese motifs to highlight the garments, Pranami used embroidery and weaving techniques to create a romantic, feminine but sustainable look. Promoting 'Slow Design', which is hand made by local artisans the collection was a tribute to crafts persons of the North East region.
The final brilliant electric blue silk and gold gown was a perfect Red Carpet entry.
ADITI HOLANI CHANDAK - AAGOR BY ANTS CRAFT
To the strains of flute player Prabin Nath, the show opened with 8 gorgeous black and red Meghla Chadors that were breathtaking in their beauty and elegance.
To empower the women of the Bodo tribe, Aagor by ANTS Craft an NGO gave them the creative support they needed. Weaving fabulous textiles, the yards of fabrics that were turned into garments were stunning on the ramp. The easy, relaxed shirt dress was worn with a long sleeved shrug while a striped skirt and blouse were cool additions. Fringed boxy cover over maxi, striped tie-up tunic, peach tasselled maxi and the jumpsuit with flaps were trendy additions to the collection.
Making a show stopping entry was Bollywood star Sara Jane Dias in a slashed multicoloured skirt with a black blouse that gave the show the necessary pizzazz.
In silhouettes that were ideal for the modern jet-setting woman, designer Aditi Holani Chandak Aagor for ANTS Craft presented a line that will instantly appeal to dressers that long for sustainable fashion of a very high creative standard.
