Badminton Association of India announces award for Saina Nehwal for her thumping Victory in BWF Australian Badminton Open 2016
New Delhi: Badminton Association of India’s President, Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta, today announced reward of Rs. 10 Lakhs for Saina Nehwal for winning the XiamenAir Australian Badminton Open 2016 in Sydney. The World No. 8 defeated China’s Sun Yu by 11-21, 21-14, 21-19 in the thrilling Final match. This is Saina’s second Australian Open MetLife BWF World SuperSeries win and with this, she has claimed her maiden title this season.
Praising Saina Nehwal’s efforts, Badminton Association of India’s President, Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta said, “I congratulate her for this marvellous victory. This is another milestone in her career as she won second Australian Open. This win will sure motivate her for the most important Rio 2016 Olympics where she is leading the Indian Badminton contingent. The victory in Sydney improves Saina’s chances of a second consecutive podium finish at the upcoming Olympics 2016. This was the last MetLife BWF World SuperSeries before the Rio Olympics.
