From now onwards life on the Indian road would tell a different story unlike earlier one when four on a scooter used to give frown on traffic police eyes and giggle to the onlookers. After all that buzzing sounds finally “The Nano� arrived today at Auto Expo in Delhi .
The small dream car for most of the Indians to fit in their pocket size, here is what the four- seater Nano is all about with 624 cc engine and a mileage of 20 km per liter and can you imagine that this much talked car has 21 % more leg room than so far used to be the smallest car of India Maruti 800. This 3.1 metre long, 1.5 metre wide and 1.6 metre high, half a ton car is loaded with 33 horse power cylinder petrol engine with the usual feature four doors, a four-gear manual transmission, seatbelts, locking and a steering wheel.
But the basic model has no air conditioning, power steering, antilock brakes or electric windows; it also has a single windshield wiper and no rear seat belts.
With Bharat 3 emission standards and having cleared the international safety norms this car looks like a magic.
When Ratan Tata drove the Nano with price Tag Rs 1 Lakh ($2500 approximately) at the Auto Expo on to the stage he looked like a messiah who promised four years ago, said “The car will cost one lakh and only because a promise is a promise.�
The car that will come in two options - AC and non-AC, will come at a dealer price of Rs one lakh plus VAT and transport charges; the car is expected to be commercially launched in the second half of the year in India . TATA is all set to foray in global market in another four year.
Nano's ex-showroom price that would be exclusive of dealer margins, taxes and transportation charges will decide the on road price so the untold story behind Nano might be different, so what is the cost?
