With the 2014 Commonwealth Games fast approaching, the Indian Hockey Teams (Both Men and Women), apart from working on their goal conversion rate are also busy perfecting their defence skills.
Where P R Sreejesh (100 caps) showcased brilliant goalkeeping during the World Cup held at The Hague last month, the Women Team's goalkeeper Savita (79 caps) did an equally appreciative job during the recently concluded Malaysian Tour. The teams are not leaving any stone unturned while preparing for the much awaited Commonwealth Games with a podium finish.
Admiring the defence line-up, the Indian Men team Vice- Captain and Goalkeeper P R Sreejesh said, "I am confident of our defence line-up with the likes of Gurbaj and Raghunath who, on any given day will give a tough time to the opponents forwards. I am looking at both of them to help better my performance during the Games. With Gurbaj's speed to match and Raghunath's sharp and strategic play, the opponents will not have an easy day with us. I am looking at continuing my World Cup form and I will yet again give my best".
The goalkeeper of the Indian Women's Hockey Team, Savita said, "With a combination of experienced and young players, we are a well balanced side in the tournament. Our defence shield, with collective experiences of Deepika and Kirandeep, has grown only stronger. I am sure the learning and skills from the past tournaments will help the team to surpass our opponents in the tournament with flying colours."
The Women Hockey Team will take on Canada on 24th July 2014 and the Men Hockey Team will clash with Wales on 25th July 2014, in their first matches of the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Scotland.
