India's last game of the Pool Matches in the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014, played at Kyocera Stadium at The Hague in The Netherlands, India lost 4-0 to Australia who are the defending champions.
The first half of the match saw Australia going all out from the very beginning of the game as they tried to take a strike in the 1st minute itself, but was brilliantly saved by the star goal keeper of India PR Sreejesh. It was again in the 3rd minute when Australia charged in to make another attempt and successfully managed to slice in the first goal of the game through Kleran Gover as a field goal. It was Australia’s Chris Ciriello who took the lead further ahead to 2-0 by making no mistake in converting a penalty corner in the 16th minute.
Australia maintained their dominance as they managed to slice in two back to back fiery penalty corners in the 20th minute through Jeremy Hayward and in the 22nd through Chris Ciriello, adding on to Australia’s lead and taking the score to 4-0.
It was in the second half that India fought back with confidence and gave a challenging fight to Australia. India restricted Australia from penetrating any further goals and stopped Australia’s score at a total of 4 goals. Where India’s comeback was good enough to restrict Australia from doing any further damage, they failed to open their own account and lost the match by 4-0.
