Hockey Odisha emerged as the champions and ended the tournament by winning over Haryana 3-1 in the 4th Sub Junior National Hockey Championship 2014 – Men (Division A) being played at Ranchi, Jharkhand. Whereas, Punjab finished 3rd place by defeating Jharkhand with a score of 3-1 on board.
In an exciting match played between Hockey Odisha and Haryana, Odisha lifts the title and defeated Haryana with a mere goal margin of 3-1. The winning team showed their superiority scoring three consecutive goals in the entire match not letting Haryana to score a single goal in the first half of the game. Hockey Odisha’s Sudhir Kujur gave two back to back goals to his team pushing a penalty corner in the 5th minute and a field goal in the 18th minute of the game. Closing the first half, Hockey Odisha had a massive advantage with a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Hockey Odisha did not lose its pace and scored another field goal in the 40th minute pierced by Nitin Mukesh Tigga. It seemed as if Haryana denied to enter Hockey Odisha's D until, with just five minutes to go in the match, Haryana’s Satnam scored an excellent field goal in the 55thminute. But it was too late for Haryana to open its account as the game as the victory moved to Hockey Odisha with a score of 3-1 on board.
In the hardline match played between Punjab and Jharkhand, Punjab edged out Jharkhand by 3-1 to seal 3rd position in the tournament. Hardik Singh hit the ball in the net in the very 1st minute and made an exciting start to the match. Jharkhand tried to level the score but could not score any. Jharkhand defended the attack of Punjab very well and did not let them score any further goals in the first half of the match.
The game started taking shape in the second half when Punjab scored two consecutive goals taking full control on the game. Captain Kawaljit Singh added a second field goal to the account of Punjab in the 38th minute followed by Dilpreet Singh who notched a goal in the 51st minute of the game advancing the lead to 3-0. Jharkhand started off late and doubled their efforts making use of a slender chance by opening its account with its first goal in the 63rd minute steering through the stick of Buddu Tuti. But with just few minute left on the board, Punjab kept its possession over Jharkhand and did not allowed the home team to score any goal securing an important win with a score of 3-1 on board.
