Japanese women put behind the reversal in the opening singles to get the better of Malaysia and book their place in the Uber Cup quarter-finals in the Li-Ning BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals, 2014.
It was a fruitful day for the Japanese contingent as even there men’s team making it to the last eight without any trouble and would be joined by the Danish men and women in the next round.
While the Danes defeated Germany 5-0 to join Japan in the Uber Cup Group Z, before the men hammered England with an identical margin to make it to the last eight in Thomas Cup Group B.
Japan defeated Hong Kong 5-0 in the men's event.
Also making it to the last eight were Thailand and Indonesia in Thomas Cup Group A and Korea and Indonesia in Uber Cup Group X.
While most of the qualifiers sailed through their last round, Japanese women suffered a few anxious moments when Jing Yi Tee upset world number 13 Sayaka Takahashi 22-20, 21-19 in 37 minutes to put the Malaysian ahead.
This was the first time in three meetings that Tee had got the better of Takahashi.
However, the former champion set the record straight by winning the next two doubles and the second singles to ensure a knock out berth.
