Book lovers for their love for books took out time from their busy schedule even on weekday and visited the New Delhi World Book Fair to buy books, meet authors and participate in literary activities. The enthusiastic children accompanying their parents and teachers were seen reading books at stalls and persuading their parents to buy more and more books for them. They also showed keen interest in participating book-related activities. Though internet, electronic media and digitized books have arrived, the love for printed books is still on. Today, an estimated 80,000 book lovers visited the book fair.
An enlightening Morning with Jeeva Aunty rejuvenated the children at the Theme Pavilion at Hall No. 7. When she started singing, “Five Monkeys Swinging on a Tree. Teaching Mr Crocodile…” the children could not stop themselves from singing the story along with her. She also interacted with children in English as well as Tamil Language. Ms Jeeva Raghunath (Jeeva Aunty), the well-known storyteller and author in her distinctive style left the audience of all age-groups spell-bound. The programme NBT Express: A Journey to the World of Children’s Literature was organized by NBT in association with Consortium Octet.
In this programme, Dr Shekhar Sarkar asked children questions related to Indian literature, authors, characters belonging to different states of the country. Later, a play on importance of education ‘Janna Zaroori Hai’ was presented by the artists of Kala Sankraman. A panel discussion on the topic Need for Classroom Libraries was organized at the theme pavilion. The speakers on the occasion were Shri Arvind Kumar, Ms Zakia, Ms Sangeeta Chaudhry and Ms Ruchika Mehra.
At Kids Bubble, the dedicated space for small children, the favourite cartoon characters Ninja and Dora the Explorer made an appearance. Not only kids, their parents were also having fun and had a photo session with them. Children who came all the way from Kathua (Jammu & Kashmir) also gave a dance performance representing the Dogri, Kashmiri and Ladakhi tradition and culture. More than 400 children from different schools participated in the activity based events at the Kids Bubble.
