Indonesia is participating for the first time in the New Delhi World Book Fair. About 200 books reflecting the culture, tradition and heritage of the country are being displayed by the ten publishers of the country. The publishers are also displaying vivid variety of paintings, sculptures and toys for children.
This year, publishers from 25 countries including Poland – the Guest of Honour
Country, Pakistan, Indonesia, South Korea, Nepal, Iran, Singapore are participating in
the New Delhi Book Fair, 2014. A large number of book lovers are visiting the stalls and
are glancing through the books especially children’s books. Several book-related events for children were organized at the theme pavilion including a session on Popular Characters from Indian Children’s Literature Come Alive in which children from various schools and NGOs presented dramatic performance, poems and stories based on popular characters in Indian Children’s literature like Tenali Rama, Jhansi Ki Rani Laxmibai, Akbar, Birbal among others. A questionnaire session was also organized in which school children were asked questions on Indian Children’s literature and the winners were also given prizes. Ms. Kshama Sharma, author also interacted with the children. More than 200 children participated in the session.
The programme was coordinated by Ms. Surekha Panandiker and Ms Shashi Jain, noted authors for children. A lively interactive workshop Let’s Go Ahead for children was conducted by Shri Rajiv Tambe, author of books for children in Hindi, Marathi and English. He said that he likes to write ghost stories for children. He played brain teasers, math games and mind games with children and also gave them tips on how to write good stories. The children showed keen interest in the workshop and penned down their thoughts. A panel discussion on the topic Children’s Literature and Theatre for the Young was organized at the theme pavilion.
