Valentine's Day or Feast of Saint Valentine was originally celebrated in the Christian tradition commemorating the saint on 14th February each year. Later the day rose in significance as the day was especially dedicated to lovers and their romantic relation the world over. This typical association of the day with romantic love dates back to the Middle Age.
Presently all over the world the day is celebrated commemorating conjugal relationship of love and courtship. The importance of Valentine’s Day in our time has numerous aspects, particularly the significance of love as a counter force to the increasing violence is widely acclaimed.
In a world ravaged by violence, greed and futile expressions of power the celebration of love and amorousness is significant for nourishing the inherent goodness of our nature. So the importance of Valentine’s Day lies not only in the so called expressions of individual lovers to their better halves but more as a social factor to replace our raging hatred and violence with the values of love and romantic ideas.
