The Minister of Education, Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Prof. Kiran Walia has stressed upon the need for optimum utilization of scientific innovations in positive directions, since science is said to be the double edged weapon and it should not be used for negative purposes or for harmful purposes. Prof. Walia was speaking while inaugurating the State Level Science Exhibition, Project Competition under the Inspire Award Scheme organized at Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi.
400 schools of Delhi participated in the second level scientific project competition. The Inspire scheme aims at attracting talented youths to study science by providing Inspire Award to experience the joy of innovations. Under the scheme, Inspire award of Rs.5,000/- each child per school for preparing the science project/model.
Out of these, 5 best entries will be selected for participating in the National Level Science Exhibition/Project Competition by a panel of scientists nominated by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. A function will be organized by the Ministry in the month of October to announce the Best Awardees from amongst 5 selected entries of each States.
The function was attended by Special Secretary (Education) Rashmi Krishnan, Director (Education) Amit Singla, Addl. Directors (Education) Lal Thunga, Sunita Kaushik, Anita Sethia, Scientist from Govt. of India Sh. Sandeep Bansal and OSD of Science Branch of Directorate of Education Shri Anis Ahmed. Innovative Models/Scientific Projects were exhibited in the Exhibition by the participating schools giving effective messages such as “Save the Earth, We Have Only One”, “Stop Global Warming, Better Late Then Never”, “Protect the Environment & Use Solar Energy” “Adopt Rain Water Harvesting” etc.
Prof. Walia said that the Govt. of Delhi is committed to upgrade the quality of education and scientific knowledge of the students in schools by providing better atmosphere and scientific infrastructure.
