Suicide bomb blast near Indian consulate in Afghanistan kills 9, over 22 injured

A suicide bomber blew himself up near the Indian consulate in Jalalabad, Afghanistan on Saturday morning. 9 peoples are reportedly killed in the blast and over 22 have been injured. All Indian officials are safe.

Syed Akbaruddin Official spokesperson of India's ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi tweeted, "Explosion in front of India's Consulate in Jalalabad. MEA in touch with officials. All officials are safe".

Suicide bomber was in a car packed with explosives. The incident took place at around 10 a.m. in Jalalabad, capital of eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, 120 km east of Kabul.

Police said that the bomber tried to enter the consulate building but his explosive went off minutes before arriving at the compound. However, the blast damaged nearby houses and shops.

The blast site has been sealed.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
