A ferry collides with a ship in Philippine 52 dead over 100 missing

A ferry MV St. Thomas Aquianas collided with cargo ship Sulpicio Express 7 off Lawis Ledge, Talisay city, Phillipines Friday night, sinking the ferry immediately.

The death toll has now risen to 52 while over 100 are still missing. The search and rescue operations for the remaining passengers of MV Thomas Aquinas have been temporarily suspended due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Around 715 people and 116 crew members were on board MV St. Thomas Aquianas while 38 crew members were on the Sulpicio Express 7. All the 38 crew members of the cargo ship are safe.

Immediately after the accident, coast guard and military vessel started the rescue operation but as the weather started changing and became worse the operation had to be suspended.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
