Sunday, July 7 became a historic day for Britain as well as Andy Murray, when World No. 2 Murray knocked off top-ranked Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 to win his and his country’s maiden Wimbledon since 136 after Fred Perry won the last of three in a row.
The 26 year Scotland's Murray became the first to win men's singles title at Wimbledon in 77 years and claim his second major title after struggling for three hours 10 minutes in front of 15,000 spectators in the Centre Court at the All England Club.
But it didn’t come easy for Murray as the top seed Djokovic of Serbia broke Murray once each in the first two sets but bouncing back, the Scot broke the Serbian's serve twice each in both the sets.
In the third set, both the players broke each other’s services twice and the set was equal at 4-all, the Murray broke the 2011 champion to go 5-4 up.
In the final game of the match, Murray played extraordinarily and won three straight points to earn three championship points which were blown away by the World No.1 to level the game and then take advantage.
However, Murray finally reached his fourth championship point and made history by winning his maiden Wimbledon on the lone grass court major.
