Education Department has relaxed prescribed criteria for admission in Commerce and Science streams in Class-XI of Govt. Schools. A Circular to this effect has been issued to all Heads of Govt. Schools informing them that students belonging to the said categories would be eligible for admission in the said streams by availing benefit of relaxation of 1 Grade point in any one of the three subjects prescribed as per admission criteria of Education Department.
Prof. Kiran Walia informed that Education Department has already prescribed admission criteria for admission in Class-XI of Govt. Schools as per which, for admission Science stream, a minimum CGPA of 7 is required alongwith minimum Grades of B2 in each of 3 subjects viz. English, Maths and Science.
Similarly, students seeking admission in Commerce (with Maths), minimum CGPA required is 6.6 with minimum Grades of C1 in English and Social Science subjects and Maths with minimum Grade of B2. For admission in Commerce (without Maths), CGPA required is 6 with atleast C1 Grade in English/Hindi and Social Science subjects.
As per prescribed criteria, students belonging to SC/ST, Handicapped, Kashmiri Migrants, etc are already permitted relaxation of 1 Grade point in any of the 3 subjects. Now, at the instance of Education Minister, minority and OBC (non-creamy layer) category students will also be able to avail the benefit of this relaxation.
Prof. Walia further informed that with effect from current Academic year, Education Department has made it compulsory for online registration for admission in Class-XI in Govt. Schools. Necessary changes in the admission module for online admission have also been made to enable students apply for admission by availing relaxation announced by Education Department.
