Croatia officially joined the European Union on July 01, 2013 and become the 28th nations of the swelling EU, which members are going day by day and it is becoming a strong contender of United States.
The celebration of joining EU begins from Monday midnight when Croatia was declared a part of EU.
Public of Croatia came on to the street in the capital Zagreb and parties continues till late night.
Capital’s Ban Jelacic square was packed before the official announcement and when it was declared, the celebration began setting aside the problem of the country that is facing trouble in the fifth consecutive year.
However, the celebration looks dimmed as European Union is also facing recession since last five years and the condition does not seems to be brighter as Croatia is the third poorest country of to join bloc.
Croatia, with a population of 4.2 million, were singing European anthem since Monday midnight.
Croatian President Ivo Josipovic described the event “historic”.
Croatia became independent in 1991 from a bloody civil war from Yugoslavia. It had applied to join EU in 2003.
