Teachers, Students March to scrap FYUP in Delhi University

New Delhi, Sun, 19 May 2013 NI Wire

Teachers, Students and various student organizations jointly marched towards the residence of UPA chairperson SmtSonia Gandhi demanding to scrap the anti welfare Four Year Undergraduate programme (FYUP) from Delhi University. Despite being denied permission rejected by the Delhi Police the demonstration took place through slogans against the DU FYUP, colonialization of education and dictatorial attitude of DU Vice Chancellor.

According to Mehboob Sahana, General Secretary Campus Front of India- Delhi State, The Delhi University has implemented four year graduation course when there is already huge crunch of resources in term of teachers, class room, hostels, library and laboratory in the University. It is pathetic that HRD Minister Pallam Raju has also supported the programme in his statement to Parliament in which he said it was approved by the university court and the students at large after exhaustive deliberations.

He further said that if one goes through the curriculum of FYUP will understand that this neo-liberal policy is nothing but commercializing the Educations system and a process of indirectly aiding the private Universities to flourish.

The unacademic and anti-student structure of the proposed four-year undergraduate programme is not in consonance with the national education policy of 10+2+3.If 600 Universities in the India like DU start autonomously decide their own education policies there would imbalance and collapse of our Nation education system. So the UPA led government should immediately take action to safe the existences of UGC and welfare education system.

Professors of Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia University and Delhi University such as Dr Hany Babu, Dr SK Sagar, DR Kedar Kumar Mandal, Dr Vijaya Venkataram and others participated and the condemned the dictatorial and anti poor FYUP.Students organizations such as Campus Front of India, DSU, AISA, AISF and various other various other organisations led the protest and constituted for its success.
