Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended Indian Cricket Coach Duncan Fletcher's contract by one year. BCCI working committee headed by BCCI President N Srinivasan took the decision in a meeting held in Mumbai on Friday.
Fletcher's two-year contract, which he signed in April 2011 was supposed to expire in March but now he will be with the team for one more year.
Fletcher was highly criticized after India lost back to back series in Australia and England. And when India lost a test series for the first time after 2004, there was a question mark over his future.
64-year-old had played for Zimbabwe
He succeeded a very successful Gary Kirsten as India coach.
This might be the last chance for Duncan. With out of form openers Sehwag and Gautam, retirement of Maestros Rahul Dravid and VVS laxman, injured bowlers Zaheer, Balaji, Munaf and Indian team going a transition phase, it was safe to give one last chance to him.
There are chances that BCCI will try to find a coach for World Cup 2015 to be held in Australia-New Zealand.
