After an 8.0-magnitude earthquake hit near Lata in Temotu province of Solomons Islands, a small tsunami of about 3 feet (0.9 metres) swept across the islands causing not much damage.
Warning has been called by officials in Solomons, Vanuatu, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, New Caledonia, Kosrae, Fiji, Kiribati, Wallis and Futuna.
Warning has also been called in some parts of Australia and New Zealand.
People have been evacuated to a safer and higher place. No death has been recorded so far.
The earthquake struck the Santa Cruz Islands in Solomons at 0112 GMT, according to US Geological Survey. The center of the quake was 340 kms away from the Solomon Islands.
Officials have said that few homes near the islands have been damaged. But there were no reports of injuries or deaths. Villagers have been asked to move to higher ground as a precaution.
