External Affairs Minister of India Salman Khurshid, who has reached to Dhaka for his two-day official visit to Bangladesh Saturday said that New Delhi seeks cooperation from Bangladesh to curb the activities of illegal migration and smuggling alongside the border.
Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni received Khurshid on his arrival at Dhaka.
"India is speeding up the process of resolution of border boundary issues with Bangladesh. We have already started cooperation on common border management, but still a lot of fine-tuning is to be done. Sometimes incidents of firing took place at the border because of illegal migration and smuggling, and cooperation is needed to stop it," Khurshid said.
"Both the countries are working together in various fields including economic development and strategic cooperation since years, and we value our very good relationship with Bangladesh," he added.
Khurshid will co-chair the second meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) along with his Bangladeshi counterpart.
The Joint Consultative Commission was constituted under the Framework Agreement on Cooperation for Development signed during the visit of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to Bangladesh in September 2011.
During his visit, Khurshid is scheduled to call on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and meet the Home Minister and the Minister for Water Resources of Bangladesh.
He is also expected to call on the Leader of Opposition, Begum Khaleda Zia.
