Jamia Millia Islamia conferred the Degree of 'Doctors of Letters' (Honoris Causa) on Najeeb Jung, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi in its Annual Convocation held in the Lawns of Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium.
A citation was presented to him on this occasion. The citation read, "In honouring Najeeb Jung … Jamia Millia Islamia acknowledges his distinctive contribution as an academic leader and administrator, who - in his person and work - demonstrates the values of excellence, integrity and commitment."
On this occasion, Jung delivered his convocation address. In his address, Jung said that Jamia's founders had the same vision as is found in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. He paid homage to the founders of both the institutions, Jamia's and the Indian Constitution's.
Speaking about Jamia, Jung said, "It was intended to be and has indeed remained a movement to ignite the brightest of minds and to give them a confidence to boldly go where others fear to tread." On this occasion, he also addressed the students and urged them to excel in their fields and set higher goals for themselves
