As a part of the Joy of Giving week (2nd Oct to 8th October), International College of Fashion, New Delhi organized an Organ Donation Camp on 1st October, 2013. It was aimed at encouraging the youth of today to help combat a shortage of organs needed for life-saving.
The event started with a welcome address by the college Chief Mentor, Miss Vani Bajaj. She said "Transplantation gives hope to thousands of people with organ failure and provides many others with active and renewed lives". The session was conducted by the Executive Director at MOHAN Foundation, Delhi. The transplant coordinator spoke about the following topics: activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the deceased organ donation programme; about organ donation; difference between brain death, coma and cardiac death and about the donor card and the myths around organ donation.
The participants asked several questions such as who should be contacted in case of an emergency, whether there is a charge to get the donor card and how to donate one’s eyes. The queries were answered by the coordinators’.
ICF saw 105 people pledge to donate their organs by signing the donor card on day one of the Organ Donation Camp. The entire student strength at ICF attended the event to make the event successful.
