Kenyan Athletes dominate in the male category of the 5th edition of Airtel Delhi Half Marathon, held on Sunday morning as all the top three spots were sealed by them.
Kenyan Athlete Edwin Kipyego won the gold medal by finishing the 10.80-k.m. long Airtel Delhi Half marathon in 01 hour fifteen seconds which is slower time rather then last year's as Edwin in the press conference , which held after the game, admitted by saying that due to the hot and humidity factor, he could not complete the race under one minute landmark. "However, I am satisfied with my performance," he added.
He won a gold medal and prize money of USD25000/- and another Kenyan athlete Leonard Langat won the silver medal by finishing the race in 1:01:07 hour.
"I was competing with last year’s winners and pushed the race after covering 10 k.m. and managed to come at second position. I am happy with my performance."
Besides silver medal, he won a prize money of USD15,000/-
The third position was cemented by Silas Kiruto (Kenya). He finished the race in one hour one minute and fifty seven seconds.
He was honoured with a bronze medal and a prize money of USD10,000.
All the three athlete aim to run in the world championship scheduled to be held in 2013 in Moscow.
Rahul Kumar Pal, who became the best Indian finisher came at 16th spot by completing race in 01:06:12 hour.
