Indian Olympic Association (IOC) is upset over International Boxing Association's (AIBA's) Friday decision which reversed the result of a Pre-quarterfinal match in the walterweight category in which Indian top boxer Vikash Krishnan had punched down his rival US boxer Errol Spence by 13-11. Later Vikash was declared looser by 15-13 by AIBA on the appeal of US team management.
IOC has alleged that AIBA under the pressure of US lobby has reversed the decision, which cost to Indian player by ousting from the Olympic event. This decision has deprived India from possible medal.
India has decided to lodge its complaint before International boxing federation.
Tarlochan Singh, Vice President IOC, on Saturday expressed his anguish and asked the Indian Chef-de-Mission to lodge a protest in this regard with the international boxing federation.
Singh said a developing nation India has been deprived of the medal through this decision.
"India is a developing nation and a developing nation has been deprived of a medal. The Chef de Mission of India this time, he is the secretary general of boxing, he is there. So, they should lodge a protest with the boxing federation," he said.
Terming the entire happening as very unfortunate, Singh said, "After all, we are all in the sports arena. When the bouts are there, it is visible to everybody, live, telecast is seen all over the world. After all, everybody is watching, who is doing what and who is making better punches and who is getting less. So, this was visible."
"Everybody is aware there is first of all a referee, who is conducting the bout in the ring. But there are four different judges sitting around the ring. And every judge gives the marks after every two minutes and these are counted later on and it is pooled and then the result is announced. So, the result was announced in favour of Indian player," he added.
Singh said International Boxing Association overturning the result of the pre-quarterfinal bout that Krishnan had won was extremely wrong, and termed the entire event as something, which is not played in sportsmanship spirit.
"Later on U.S. Team Manager lodges a complaint and complaint is on the basis of foul. So, this is total wrong decision on many a counts. First of all, all the judges gave version in favour of the Indian player. Krishnan was winning hands down. Secondly, it is sports arena and not politics," said Singh.
"The jury has been influenced by the American lobby. So, this is a wrong decision against India. The Indian boxer has won," he added.
The AIBA overturned U.S. boxer Errol Spence's loss to Indian welterweight Vikash Krishnan late on Friday night, five hours after the latter kept himself in medal reckoning by scripting a hard-fought 13-11 victory in a thrilling pre-quarter final contest.
The AIBA later awarded the bout 15-13 to the American citing the fouls committee by the Indian, which were not noticed by the referee. The decision was made following an appeal by the U.S. team management.
