After leading England successfully for three and a half year in Test Cricket, Andrew Strauss announced his retirement from professional cricket with immediate effect from Wednesday.
The 35-year-old Strauss announced his official retirement in a news conference at Lord’s, where he quoted the reason his degrading batting form as the reason of retirement.
Strauss was selected as the full time captain of England Test squad in January 2009 and played his role exceptionally well and led the team to the top of the test rankings for the first time last year.
He led England as a captain in 50 tests out of which 24 were won by England. He became the second most successful captain of England of all time after Michael Vaughan.
Alastair Cook, the current England’s one-day captain will take over the captaincy of test team from the left-hander as England Test captain
