57-year-old Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has died. The reason behind his illness was unspecified.
He was not seen in public for the last two months.
He died on Monday just before midnight due to a sudden infection when he was recovering in a hospital, abroad.
Deputy Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn will be acting as prime minister and will be in charge of the Cabinet.
Mr. Meles became president in 1991 and prime minister in 1995. He then won the election in 2005 and 2010.
Meles was born on May 8, 1955 in the northern town of Adwa.
