Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was furious on his players as they were defeated by Everton on the opening game of the season by 1-0.
This is the first time since 2004 when ManU has lost its opening match.
Alex criticized his players saying that they failed to utilize Robin van Persie's talents. "We played around him too much, we didn't show enough penetration and with Robin in your team you know you want to use his ability against centre-backs in situations he is very good at. But we didn't use him enough".
Van Persie recently completed a 24 million pound deal and moved from Arsenal to Manchester United.
However, Dutch striker made his United debut in the 68th minute as a substitute at Goodison Park on Monday.
Ferguson said, "He's not played any football, given the expectation of him playing at any given moment, it was better for him to start on the substitutes' bench. He's a great player and there is always the temptation to play him when you have a player like that. But the sensible route is to start him on the bench."
However overall Ferguson was satisfied with the way team played.
"We were the better football team, they had eight shots on target and De Gea did very well for us in that way. But we had the possession and made some great openings without actually finishing it, that was the only difference. Other than that we played good football, good combination play, on another day we would have won the match."
