YouWeCan an initiative by the Yuvraj Singh Foundation to combat Cancer

New Delhi, Mon, 09 Jul 2012 NI Wire

YouWeCan an initiative by the Yuvraj Singh Foundation (YSF) to combat cancer was launched at New Delhi on Saturday.

This program will focus on spreading awareness about the disease among people by telling them about advantages of early detection and how to fight it.

Yuvraj who himself survived cancer chose this event as a platform to transcend the courage amongst the masses with which he successfully fought the disease.

"The journey from being a part of the World Cup winning team to fighting for my life has indeed been full of emotions. I was faced with the biggest high of witnessing India lift the World Cup and the shock of suffering from cancer, both at nearly the same time. Having experienced cancer personally, I can totally empathize with the pain and difficulties faced by a cancer patient and thus we have launched 'YouWeCan'. I feel extremely passionate and motivated about using this platform to appeal to everyone, to come forward for early detection, as I have myself benefited from it and it is key to saving your life from Cancer. I am determined to make a dent in the society and fight for controlling cancer but cannot achieve my objectives without your participation and support. I believe, together You and We CAN. And remember, if Yuvi Can, You Can," he said.

He invited people to join him in this cause to fight cancer.

YouWeCan will carry out various awareness initiatives, set up detection camps through mobile vans throughout the country.

It will also establish permanent detection centers, a Speak Up Campaign, a base for fighting Stigma against Cancer in association with the Indian Cancer Society.

Yuvraj said that life has changed a lot after cancer. "Life is simple for me. I now look to see how I can make a difference to the society, difference to someone's life. All the adulation, fame and money are fine, but I know that family and friends are the real pillars of my life. This phase has made me understand myself better. It has taught me to be humble and make myself accessible to people who need me".

Sir, I am suffering from colon cancer, lymphnode and renal hilum since February, 2008. Since them I am taking treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi. Total 30 cycles chemotherapy taken by me and my treating doctor opined my case "clinically no evidence of cancer". Alongside my treatment, I am discharging my duties with full devotion. I think it will inspire millions of cancer patients.
