On the line of BCCI's Indian Premier League (IPL), Hockey India (HI), the governing body of Field Hockey in India Thursday has announced a list of 28 players including top stars from the current national team for playing it's cash-rich hockey series Hockey India League (HIL).
Senior players in current Indian Men Hockey team like Shivendra Singh, Tushar Khandker, Yuvraj Walmiki has been signed for inaugural session of HIL.
Initial 28 contracts were signed between Hockey India and players in Pune on 7 June 2012.
The Chief Executive of Hockey India Elena Norman has signed on behalf of Hockey India.
In the initial list, 28 players have been signed while next list will be announced shortly.
The league will help India unearth new talents as the Indian youngsters will be playing alongside top international stalwarts, said HI while releasing the names of the players.
With the inaugural season being played in six cities with 6 franchises based teams it will help to popularize our National Game in the country, added HI.
HIL will be a multi city franchise-based league and players acquired in an auction. Each team will have 24 players including 10 foreign and 14 Indians.
Hockey India Secretary General Dr. Narinder Batra awarded annual contract to forward Shivendra Singh, Tushar Khandker and Yuvraj Walmiki here.
