Retaining his 7th spot in WTA charts released on Monday, Leander Paes became only Indian to directly qualify for an entry in doubles in London Olympics.
Sania Mirza on the other hand will depend on the wildcard entry to book a berth in London Olympics. Two of the four wildcards have already been assigned to Paraguay's Veronica Cepede Royg and Liechenstein's Stephanie Vogt.
The top-10 ATP doubles rankings in both the men and women categories are eligible for direct qualification in Olympics and ITF set the cut-off on the basis of the rankings after the French Open.
Leander maintained his 7th spot but Sania slipped to 12th in the doubles list thus failing to book a direct London Olympic berth.
But who will partner Paes in the Olympics will be decided by AITA selection committee comprising Jaideep Mukherjea, SP Misra, Rohit Rajpal, Zeeshan Ali and Sai Jayalakshmi on Friday.
All India Tennis Association may also decide whether India would field two teams during the Olympics. They will try to get a wildcard for Sania.
June 21 is the last date to confirm the entry of eligible players for the Olympics.
