Kevin Pietersen quits ODIs, will continue Test

New Delhi, Fri, 01 Jun 2012 NI Wire

Flamboyant stroke player and former England skipper Kevin Pietersen bid adieu to limited over cricket on Thursday. The announcement of his retirement was surprising and shocking for all the cricket lovers, as he will never be seen in the blue jersey again.
Pietersen will now continue his career with test cricket.

Kevin made his debut in 2004 and took no time to join the list of favorites by his aggressive and spectacular batting style. Pietersen, 31, has played 127 ODIs and 36 T20s for England and has scored 4,184 runs at an average of 41.84 in one-day internationals and averages 37.93 in international t20 cricket.

Pietersen had no plan to quit international T20 format, but due to the selection criteria of ECB, he will not be able to be a part of England T20 team for the next T20 World Cup bu will continue to play for Delhi Daredevils in IPL.

Pietersen has played some remarkable innings for England that has helped the team to win several matches but was running through a bad phase of his career for last some time. The statistics of the batsman says all about his potential as reached 1000 one-day runs in just 21 matches equalling Viv Richards record, while he made more runs in his first 25 Tests than anyone else except Don Bradman. His contributions to the England and world cricket will never be forgotten.
