The construction for the second campus of India premier medical institute and hospital, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS-II) began from Wednesday at a village in Haryana's Jhajjar district. The campus will be even bigger than the present campus of AIIMS located at Delhi. Said an official.
The total expenditure will cost Rs.1,000 crore and the new campus will be equipped with various facilities that could not be facilitated due to lack of space in the present campus of AIIMS in Delhi.
Ghulam Nabi Azad , Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, accompanied by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, laid the foundation stone for the construction at Badhsa village, some 25-km from here.
"We are planning to have some national institutes of excellence here that will contribute to health research as well as framing of national health policies and programmes for implementation," Azad said during the occasion.
The minister announced that the AIIMS Outreach OPD would be completed within the next four months and a nursing school would also be set up under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and 5 to 10 per cent reservation would be provided to the youths of Badsha village in class-IV and in addition to that they will also be provided non technical jobs in the upcoming AIIMS-II.
He referred the institute as the 'Baadshah' (king) of the health institutes in the country. He said that AIIMS-II would have a well-equipped research institute, where the best of the health policies would be drafted.
The new AIIMS will also have a National Institute for the treatment of diseases like cancer, heart and infectious diseases.
He said that the institute will carry out research for bringing new technologies to provide health treatment at reasonable prices.
Azad said that AIIMS-II is a large project and would be completed in the next five to six years. During that time, Outreach OPD would provide health services like general medicine, orthopedics, gynecologists and ENT among others.
He said that the government was trying to find for the required measurement of
land in the neighbouring NCR region to set up a branch of AIIMS-II for a long
time. AIIMS-II at Badhsa will observe a modern, state of the art tertiary level
health care in the various departments of AIIMS.
The member parliament from Rohtak, Dipender Hooda was also present during the
occasion.
Badhsa village is the same place where the 20 acres of land provided to filmmaker Subhash Ghai 's Mukta Arts by the Haryana government adjacent to the plot of AIIMS-II and on Tuesday was banned by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to carry out further activities.
