Delhi Government has decided to further work in partnership with Cure International India in Delhi to overcome cases of clubfoot so that affected children could become disability free. The City Government has entered into partnership under phase-2 with Cure International India as partnership under phase-1 has proved to be successful. Under phase-1 around 2200 children have been permanently cured of disability enabling them to live normal lives. Under phase-2 the Government and Cure International India will jointly intensify a Club Foot Management Programme in eight hospitals in the capital city. Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Dikshit announced this in a function.
In India every ten minutes a child is born with clubfoot and in a year over 50000 children are born with this sort of disability. In Delhi around 500 children are born with clubfoot. The reason of this sort of disability is unknown and so it cannot be prevented.
Smt. Dikshit stated that government is committed to start this campaign forcefully so that no children affected with clubfoot remain in Delhi. The Capital City will become the first State to become a clubfoot free State.
In Delhi the treatment of club foot is available in eight hospitals – Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya, Maulana Azad Medical College and Lok Nayak Hosppital, Deen Dayal Upadhaya Hospital, Mararishi Balmiki Hospital, Kalawati Saran Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital, AIIMS and St. Stephens Hospital.
