An approximate of 50 million eligible voters of Egypt queued at polling stations today to start a new beginning in history of Egypt. It is the first time that people of Egypt are participating in electing President of Egypt.
The election opened at 8 a.m. (0600 GMT).
Official campaigning ran for three weeks and ended on Sunday. Campaign also included U.S.-style televised presidential debates, interviews were carried by newspaper, campaign were advertised by banners and posters on the streets.
12 candidates are running for the Presidential posts in the first round election that takes place on Wednesday and Thursday in 13,000 polling stations. There might be a run-off in June.
Egypt marked a historic transition from autocratic rule when their last president Hosni Mubarak stepped down after violence, protests and political deadlock in February. He remained in power for 30 years. Army has taken the charge since then.
