A 10 wicket win of Mumbai Indians over Rajasthan Royals not only earned them 3rd place in the playoffs but also boosted there wavering morals that they can win this years IPL if they work hard.
162 put up by Rajasthan was not an easy score to chase but opening combination of Sachin and Smith which is actually the eight combination Mumbai has tried, clicked and they went on to make 163 without troubling other batsmen.
Playing first Rajasthan didn't had a great start as their consistent performer Dravid and Rahane couldn't contribute this time but Watson (45), Binny (30), Owais (28) and Menaria (21) fought hard to take the score to respectable 162 in 20 overs. Kulkarni of Mumbai on his debut of this season took 3 wickets in his 4 over spell and gave away just 18 runs.
Bowling power of Rajasthan disappointed them big time and their fielding as well. There were many chances that were put down by Rajasthan and Sachin and Smith used the most of the opportunity given by them. Their bowlers gave 18 runs extra bowling 15 wides. Sachin made an unbeaten 58 runs in 51 balls but the match was dominated by Smith who contributed 87 in 58 balls hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes. This is only the 5th time in IPL history that a team has been beaten by 10 wickets.
Rajasthan finished 7th with 14 points while Mumbai have moved to the 3rd spot and will face Chennai Super Kings in the eliminator.
Smith was awarded man of the match for his performance with both bat and ball.
