Royal Challengers Bangalore were always favorite even before the match started and their fans were sure of their team reaching into playoffs as they were facing underdogs Deccan Chargers. But Dale Steyn and J.P.Duminy made sure that start studded RCB gets down on their knees.
Team that maintained consistently the last spot in the points table rose to the occasion to give their fans one last smile nad pushed Pune Warriors to the last spot by defeating RCB. They destroyed RCB dream as well of reaching into playoffs.
Batting first top order of the Chargers again disappointed and none of the top four soul contribute much but Duminy fought alone. He made 74 in 53 balls and took Deccan to a respectable score of 132 in 20 overs.
The score was never looked unreachable of RCB with batsmen like Gayle, Dilshan, Kohli and AB de Villiers as their top 4. And the way Gayle started making 27 in just 10 balls it looked RCB will finish it in 10 overs but win was far away. Steyn was first time backed by other bowlers of Chargers as he led the attack. He first bowled Gayle, then Dilshan was caught lbw in his bowling. Kohli and Tiwary showed some fight but wrong selection of shot saw Kohli back into pavilion. Rest of the team could only contribute 17 and they reached only 123 in 20 overs.
Steyn was awarded man of the match for his superb bowling. He finished with the figures of 3 wickets in his 4 overs giving just 8 runs.
In the 71st match of IPL and penultimate league game played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium of Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers marked a 9 run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore.
With this win Deccan grabbed the 8th spot in points table pushing Pune Wariors to the last spot and stopped RCB from reaching into playoffs, they finished 5th with exact points (17) as of CSK but with a lesser net run rate.
