Maria Sharapova retained her Italian Open title by defeating Li Na in the tiebreaker. Match had a lot of ups and downs and even saw the rain stopping the play for two hours. Li Na was in the lead from the start and was playing superbly and Maria had no clue whatsoever in the first two sets.
Li Na won the first set by 6-4 and then had a lead in the second set of 4-0 as well but Maria came from nowhere to take on the second set as 6-4 and took the game to the decider. Score was 4-4 then 5-5 then 6-6 when the rain interrupted for two long hours. But when Maria came back she came back to win the title.
It is the 26th career title for Maria Sharapova and is just before the Roland Garros (French Open). She said, 'This is a great win for me going into Roland Garros'.
On the other hand the Men Finals was postponed till Monday much to the anger and annoyance of the fans who threw bottles on the court. Bad weather was the reason behind it. The Men´s final will be played between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Novak defeated Roger Federer to reach in the final while Nadal defeated compatriot David Ferrer to have a rematch of 2011 in which Djokovic came out the winner.
Currently Maria is World Number two in WTA ranking while Li is number 8.
