Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Ajay Maken lashed out at the BJP for running a grossly corrupt and inefficient administration during the last 5 years in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Underlining the fact that the Central Government as well as GNCTD had flushed the MCD with funds amounting to Rs. 14,100 crores during the last 5 years.
Maken said that during the years 2008, 2009 and 2010, the CBI and Anti- Corruption Wing of the GNCTD had lodged as many as 64 cases against 128 officials of the civic body. The presence of more than 22853 ghost employees on the rolls of MCD had resulted in about 17 crores rupees lining the pockets of corrupt BJP leaders per month.
Trashing the BJPs of repeated complaints of step motherly treatment towards the MCD, he informed that while the non-plan allocation for MCD was Rs. 673 crores in 2005-06 when the Congress had MCD, the same in 2010-11 had risen to Rs. 1226 crores.
Shri Maken informed that while Rs. 1533 crores had been given to MCD in 2009 for 11 projects under JNNURM, they had been able to spend only Rs. 125 crores during the last 3 years. Shri Maken apprehended that since JNNURM was only applicable to the 11th Plan period (2007-2012) there was danger of the funds lapsing and with this in mind the Congress Party had been trying with the Central Government to get extension of two years for the completion of these projects.
