Pak will only take action when India provides hard evidence against Hafiz Saeed: Rehman Malik

New Delhi, Sun, 16 Dec 2012 NI Wire

Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik, who is at present at New Delhi as part of his three-day official visit to India, Saturday chanted old chorus, if India provides any hard evidence against Hafiz Saeed regarding his involvement in 26/11 terror attack on Mumbai, Pakistan will definitely take action against him.

Talking to reporters outside the India International Centre (IIC) here, Malik said that if his government can arrest seven accused and provide hard evidence to court then they could also arrest Hafiz Saeed if there was hard evidence against him.

Giving the reason behind the solid evidence, Malik asked, "Despite not having any hard evidence against him, only on the basis of information provided by India, we arrested him thrice. I can publish the court order in which he has been granted bail and the court denied us permission to arrest him. We didn't say anything when Kasab was hanged according to the court order. If our courts deny Saeed's arrest, you tell me what can a executive authority do."

"I appeal to all the brothers and sisters from India that if evidence will be provided to us, we will definitely take action. But it does not mean that we are doing nothing; investigation is on, the moment we see some kind of connection, some substantial evidence, we will definitely take proper action," he added.

The visiting minister further stated that the law in Pakistan doesn't permit to take voice sample without anyone's will, but they have appealed against this provision in the High Court and the matter is pending.

"We are trying our level best. I have said it earlier also that it is likely a triangular conspiracy in which Headley is also involved, which was traveling to from India to Pakistan and America," said Malik.

Malik agreed that the accused of the Mumbai attack should be punished as soon as possible and expressed the hope that after solving the pending issues of judicial commission, the matter will be resolved soon.
