A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.4 on the Richter scale hit Indonesia during Tuesday midnight. However, no tsunami alert was issued, authorities here said.
The earthquake that hit Maluku in eastern Indonesia at 1653 on GMT on Monday had its epicentre at 180 km northwest of Maluku Barat. However, there were no chances of Tsuanmi as a result of the earthquake. There were no immediate reports of any damage of property or lives were reported, Xinhua quoting officials.
Though the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported the 7.4-magnitude quake had a depth of 10 km undersea bed. However, the US Geological Survey measured the magnitude to be of 7.2 and a depth of 155.2 km.
