23 people have been saved while 50 people are still missing in a boat accident that occurred at Bangladesh coast on Wednesday.

The accident occurred when a boat carrying 70-100 illegal migrants to Malaysia sank at Bangladesh's Teknaf coast, 320 kilometers (200 miles) south of Dhaka in Bay of Bengal.

Most of the illegal migrants were Rohingya Muslims and were traveling to Malaysia to look for jobs. Survived people have been detained by local police.

Bangladesh Border commander Lt. Col. Zahid Hossain said,"The boat was trying to recover one passenger who fell down from the boat and later on the boat could not control the momentum and it went down inside the water. No bodies had been recovered so far".

"Most of the survivors were rescued by local fishermen," he added.

Rescue attempts are being carried out by the coast guards.
