Scotland University announces two PG Scholarships

Wales, Wed, 07 Nov 2012 NI Wire

A Scotland based university 'Edinburgh Napier University' where the life and philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore has been taught Wednesday announced two post-graduate scholarships of 5,000 pounds each to students from India and Bangladesh.

The University will allow students to study subjects as different as creative advertising to journalism and sound production at the School of Arts and Creative Industries, it said.

"These new scholarships will not only provide essential financial backing but will help two exceptional students reach their full potential," said Joan Stringer, vice-chancellor of the university.

The deadline for the applications is May 31, 2013.

The university earlier this year set up the Scottish Centre for Tagore Studies (ScoTS) under its Napier's Institute for Creative Industries.

"Edinburgh Napier has strong links with India. We hope ScoTs will not only recognise Tagore's global impact but will further strengthen educational and cultural ties between the two countries," Stringer said.

The department promotes Indian culture, philosophy, art and literature by highlighting Tagore's legacy.

Tagore's grandfather, Dwarkanath Tagore, was honoured with the Freedom of the City award by Edinburgh in 1845.
