New Delhi, Mon, 05 Nov 2012 NI Wire

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has not been selected for the first test match against South Africa due to a leg injury, Cricket Australia (CA) said on Monday.

Watson injured his left calf playing for New South Wales against Queensland on Saturday.

First test match between Australia and South Africa will begin on Friday at the Gabba Stadium in Brisbane.

Left-handed opener Rob Quiney will replace Watson in the squad. 30-year-old Quiney will make his debut with this test match. He graduated to first class cricket only five years ago.

Quiney scored 85 for Australia A against South Africa last week and is in good form.

Meanwhile Watson hopes to be fit for the 2nd and 3rd Test matches that are due to be played in Adelaide and Perth.
