The capital of Jharkhand, Ranchi is all set to feel the glory of hosting its first One Day International cricket match at the newly constructed JSCA cricket stadium under the captaincy of Jharkhandi captain of Indian cricket team Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Jan 19 next year.
The stadium will meet its formal inauguration ceremony on Jan 17 in the presence of both Indian and England teams. The Indian team will play the first match against England in the upcoming series to be held between India and England early nest year.
"ICC has given it's green signal to hold one-day matches in Ranchi" Amitabh Chaudhary, president of Jharkhand State Cricket Association(JSCA) told reporters.
Earlier, ICC three weeks ago had sent a team of inspection under David Boon to inspect the stadium and according to Chaudhary, the former Australian cricketer was pretty happy and satisfied with the state of affairs.
"In India no stadium has arrangements to sit on the grass. In the Ranchi stadium this arrangement has been made which is comparable to some of the foreign countries," a JSCA official told IANS.
The people of Ranchi are very much excited about the first match in their city.
"We are thrilled to know that the India will play against England in Ranchi under the captaincy of Dhoni. Dhoni is proud of Ranchi and it will be heartening to watch our home town hero playing here," said Priti, a student of St. Xavier's college.
