Jammu, May 1 (ANI): A new power project inaugurated recently by Jammu and Kashmir (J and K) Chief minister Omar Abdullah is expected to benefit about 1,00,000 inhabitants in the Mur and Raipur constituencies of the state.
The 50 MVA capacity power grid station at Ponicheck ia part of the Rs. 1909 crore R-APDRP project that aims to reduce transmission and distribution (T and D) losses in the state by about three percent annually.
Underlining the importance of the power sector in promoting economic development of the region, the state government said financial self-reliance is directly linked to harnessing about 20000 Megawatt of hydro electricity that is available to the state.
The state government's thrust is on power generation with a focus on upgrading the distribution and transmission system.
The construction of the Ponicheck station, built at a cost of about Rs. 16.72 crore, includes a 1.78-km feeding line.
The station will also benefit the people living in Talab Tillo, Trilokpur and adjacent areas.
In 2011, the state government completed the construction of seven grid stations. In 2012, two grid stations have been completed, while another seven are in the pipeline.(ANI)
