Tata Motors sales down 7 percent in April

New Delhi, May 1 (IANS) Automobile major Tata Motors Tuesday reported a decline of 7 percent in its total sales including exports in April which stood at 60,086 units from 64,383 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.

 

The company's domestic sales including commercial and passenger vehicles for the period under review declined 5 percent at 57,305 units from 60,125 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.

 

Exports-wise, the company reported a decline of 35 percent in the month under review at 2,781 units as compared to 4,258 units shipped out in April, 2011.

 

According to the company, sales of its commercial vehicles segment last month declined by six percent at 34,647 units compared to 36,738 vehicles sold in April last year.

 

LCV (light commercial vehicle) sales stood at 24,818 units, a growth of 9 percent, as compared to 22,802 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.

 

"M&HCV (medium and heavy commercial vehicle) sales stood at 9,829 nos., lower by 29 percent, compared to 13,936 vehicles sold in April, last year," the company said in a statement.

 

In terms of passenger vehicles sales the auto major reported a total sale and distribution offtake of 23,658 units in April, down 7 percent from 25,436 units sold in corresponding month of last year.

 

"Sales of Tata passenger vehicles for April 2012 are at 22,658 nos., lower by 3 percent, compared to 23,387 nos., sold in April last year," the statement said.

 

Sales of the company's entry-level hatchback car Nano declined by 20 percent at 8,028 units compared to 10,012 units sold in April, last year.

 

The Indica range sales stood at 6,913 units, up by 63 percent from 4,250 units sold in April, last year.

 

"The Indigo range recorded sales of 3,669 nos., lower by 31 percent, over 5,282 nos., sold in April, last year."

 

Sales of Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture range grew by 5 percent in the month under review at 4,048 units from 3,843 units sold in April, last year.

 

"Jaguar Land Rover sales in India continued their upward trend," the company said.
