London, Apr 28 (ANI): Sheffield United's Ched Evans, who was sentenced to five years in jail following his conviction in a rape case, will be honoured by fans with 'staged clapping' twice during the ninth and 35th minute of the televised home game.

The tribute is being given to the striker because Evans had reportedly scored 35 goals for Sheffield United over the past season, and was the 'Wayne Rooney' of the team, the Daily Mail reports.

Terrace tributes such as staged clapping are normally reserved for giants of the game, great players or managers, who may have recently passed away.

The Welsh international star is currently detained at the Altcourse Prison in Liverpool, where he would be beginning his five-year sentence.

Evans was convicted of rape after he allegedly raped a drunken teenager, which was filmed by his brother and another fellow on a mobile phone. (ANI)
